6 Things to do to be successful

Aiming

While you live in the era of instant gratification, having long term goals is still as relevant as ever. There is no shortcut to success. Nobody achieves success overnight or by chance. From Charles Darwin to Mark Zuckerberg, every successful person has had a vision long before they achieved it

Boastful

When you go and on about yourself, you fail to be a good leader. Attempts to self-promote often have the opposite effect. Irene Scopelliti, a lecturer at City University London did a study on braggers and concluded that “When we engage in self-promotion ourselves, we tend to overestimate others' positive reactions and underestimate their negative ones. These results are particularly important in the internet age, when opportunities for self-promotion have proliferated via social networking.”

Multitasking

While multitasking has always been something people have a high regard for, if you observe really productive people, you will understand that they don’t multitask. They consider multi tasking a real killer. Ultra productive people know their Most Important Task (MIT) and work on it for one to two hours each morning, without interruptions. Research conducted at Stanford University confirms that multitasking is less productive than doing a single thing at a time.

Saying yes to everything

As Warren Buffett said, “The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.” True, it is very difficult to say no because you don’t want to come across as someone rude. There is a negative connotation to saying no and that leads to guilt. However, it is something you should practice if you want to lead a successful life.

Dawdling

Mark Twain once said, “Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.” Successful people do not take chances, thus do not procrastinate. They take action and get the tough assignments done first.

Letting Your Mind Wonder

Your attention span reduces further with age. And the worst is, it evades you when you need it the most. Try to work on focus. Letting your mind wander between multiple things can reduce productivity. Concentration improves when the mind is able to focus all its energy on one target and keep it there.
